Blog that is.
First of all Happy Mother’s Day to all you clever wonderful women who wear so many hats in our lives.
Things here have been busy and a little productive. R. and made Pavlova’s for his mother’s day dinner. There is a grilled fig and poached pear one to the left and a bit further down you’ll see the more traditional Kiwi fruit, strawberry and passion fruit one. For all of you over the big pond a Pavlova is a meringue style desert with a soft meringue centre which is covered in cream and fruit.
Credit to my gorgeous R. for the dessert photos in this post.
It was supposedly created for and Served to Famous ballerina Anna Pavlova in the 1920’s when she visited New Zealand. (Conflicting sources say it was an Australian recipe and my theory is that we always claim the kiwis ideas and people so I’ll give this one back.)
I made R.s Mum a bag for Mother’s day. I have to say I really do love giving handmade gifts to people who appreciate them. You can see a glimpse of the bag below and view the boring full frontal shot here at my flickr. The bag is from McCall’s Pattern 3193 and the embroidery is inspired by a vintage craft book I found recently (I’m developing a bit of a collection of 70’s craft books – expect a big post soon).
And just while I’m talking about Flickr how come no one has pointed me towards the pincushions group before? Adorable and inspiring. I’m loving the Pincushions challenge but this is a great way to share other things! Speaking of the Pincushion challenge has anyone heard from BoogaJ? I haven’t seen the new theme pop up yet?
Oh well, it’s not like we don’t have challenges to keep us occupied. Maybe I’ll try to combine project spectrum with whiplash’s miniature quilt challenge. I kinda wish we had the full month for this one, not just the remainder of May! Peeking out of the bottom of the photo to the left you will see a reprint of a 1950’s quilt book I found when op-shopping. Lot’s of inspiration there.
Now one last thing. One Red Robin tagged anyone who was listening with the 7 Random tidbits meme so here goes.
Rules:
>> List seven random facts/habits about yourself
>> Choose another seven bloggers to tag and list their names in your blog
>> Leave your seven tagged bloggers comments to notify them of their tagging and to direct them to your blog for tag instructions.
- I now randomly work for the best friends of people who gave me my first job 15 years ago. This is two states away and was only discovered after I started working for them.
- If you give me Tea in a tea pot i have to spin the pot three times anti clockwise before I pour it.
- One of my favourite movies for watching by myself is Driven.
- I’ve been crocheting since I was 8.
- When I can’t sleep I like to organise things. This can be interesting for the people I live with so I’m lucky I live alone at the moment.
- I’d like to collect teapots and pretty tea cups.
- I’m soon to buy the first New bed of my adult life.
Again I’ll follow Red robin’s lead and tag anyone who’d reading this! Let me know if you do it! And ill leave you with what was left of dessert.
Ooooh! That looks fabulously yummy! Now you’ve inspired me to cook some MORE, and the husband and I certainly don’t need any more desserts. 😛
Ooh, Pavlova! I’m REALLY bad at making meringues though, so maybe I’ll skip this one.
I’m anxiously waiting for the new pincushion challenge too. I hope she’s OK.
But in the meantime I DO have to make that mini quilt before the end of the month, so maybe it’s not a bad thing after all.
